I am an American presently staying in East Gippsland, (Stratford), Victoria, Australia doing shakedown rides with my equipment for an up coming trip through the Outback of WA, SA and NT, Australia (this coming winter June through mid Sept). Looking for transport my bicycle to Murray Bridge, SA between mid March and the the end of the month, 2014. It is a rather cumbersome and awkward piece of equipment. It was made to specifically ride the sand and relatively flat terrain. It does not perform well on the bitumen, hence the desire not to ride it from where I am located to the Adelaide region. Any assistance, advice, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You can take bicycles for free on trains in Victoria on Vline, from Stratford there are usual 3 trains a day to Melbourne.
From Melbourne to Murray bridge there is 2 trains a week, leaving in the morning on Saturdays and Tuesdays, this train is called the Overland. You have to book your bicycle but it is free and you just drop it off at Southerncross station in Melbourne, you have to take your bags off usually.
Hope that makes sense
Hi Joel:
Thanks for the information. I am aware what you wrote and what I learned is/was the following:
Yes, my bike was free on the V line but I had to load it myself as it was over the 22 K limit.
I have been unable to talk to a live person connected with the Overlander regarding bicycles.
Appreciate the assistance.
Erik
If you land in Adelaide, and looking to ride to Murray Bridge, I can map a back-road and if work permits, join you for a ride.
