My wife and I are taking Amtrak to Penn Station in NYC then heading to JFK for our flight. Amtrak won't let the bikes on the train in their bags, so we will need to pack them to go on the airplane after we arrive. What is the easiest way to JFK from Penn Station with the bikes? Thanks

From Penn, you could take the Long Island Railroad to Jamaica, then the AirTrain to JFK. As of this summer bikes are now allowed for free on the LIRR (before, you needed a $5 pass). The subway is the cheaper option, but the LIRR is a quicker option. Look for the train cars with the handicap symbol on the outside so that there is plenty of room to store the bikes, even in their bags. If you go in an off-peak hour there should be lots of space.
