I'm not sure if you can fly directly to Avignon in Provence from the USA but it is a small regional airport which gives great access to the South of France.

I don't know about fight but the place you should look for in France is Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur as it is a land of azure blue seas and snow-clad mountains. So don't miss to visit it.
