Anyone Cycled From Kathmandu to Rajahstan - what's best season?

My husband went to Nepal and loved it.  Now he wants to take me (his frightened of heights wife) to Kathmandu and thinks that if we cycle downhill into India it will be great! I really want to visit Rajahstan  - and would like to continue onwards to the coast and southwards.

What time of year would be the best for this journey?

Is there any way I can get out of this!

Cycling Kathmandu to Rajahstan- but why?

Jo, you can get out of this by not stepping on the plane! I have just returned from trekking in Nepal to Everest Base Camp. The Nepalese and Sherpa people are great firstly. The roads in Nepal are appallingly bad. We took a local bus from Jiri to Kathmandu, a distance of just 188km, which took 12 hours, because the road is that bad. If you do this trip try to wear a good mask as the air is very polluted. I am still sick with a chest infection from trekking in Nepal. Carry antibiotics yourself and take them if you suspect you have an infection. I wish I had self-diagnosed earlier and commenced ABO's while in Nepal. Obviously, you need a robust bike suited to dirt roads and spares to suit as bike shops are probably non-existent in Nepal. Best of luck!!

Bike shops in Kathmandu

'Bike shops probably non-existent in Nepal' ? Both Epic Mountain Bike and Kathmandu Bike Station are good.

Kathmandu to Rajahstan

But, what exactly is your planned route?

WS Member Аватар пользователя WS Member
route...?

No route planned yet! will go next winter hopefully...But if anyone has any suggestions of roads to use - or avoid - (!) I would be happy to hear... Would start in Kathmandu, go west (!) and want to visit Agra, Jaipur and more of Rajahstan.... then to coast maybe? Or maybe we should make it two trips - Kathmandu down to Kolkata.... the a Rajahstan/Agra trip another time... We are used to long distance cycling - but mostly in Europe so far - although we are off road as much as possible... (sometimes by design!) so used to rough riding!

I am in middle of planning route round Thailand/Cambodia/Laos for this winter - the worst bit is how to cycle out of the airport in Thailand without hitting a 6 lane highway...!!
