So this new site, doesn't have all the info that was in there before. My travels, my hosting. It's all gone.
Same for me,
The old web site had a few options for hosting that you could click on to show what you offered. The new web site had expanded fields with other areas for further descriptive narratives. This became confusing for people who had completed both sets of fields. A few months back we announced that the older field/options were going away and encouraged members who signed up in the old system to update their profile. If you hit the edit button, you will see the new fields.
Ken Francis, Registrar
Hi Ken. I think you're mistaken.
My profile isn't the issue. I've stayed with people and have had a bunch of people stay with me. I can't see most of those entries. It's not about my profile.
Perhaps you are referring to this bug:
Actually it seems you have only given feedback to 12 members - this should only be a problem when feedback given exceeds 25. Are you saying that there is feedback (given or received) that does not appear on this page:
I've had people that stayed with me that gave feedback about me. On the Guests tab, there is nobody. "No Guests Found".
But they appear where they have always appeared on the feedback tab no? Or is there feedback given or received missing from there also?
Same for me. I have hosted four guests to date, but none of them display in the My Guest tab page. What's the issue with that?
Official requests were removed from the system so nothing will show up in those tabs.
Not about requests. It's about past stays. It serves as a reputation, to know how past interactions have been noted. Your other post explains that somehow this still isn't fixed.
I was not responding to you but to Dave (check the post indentation).
Yes, I know. I write this kind of software. He said the following:
Past stays with him are not showing up. That's what I was asking about as well.
So you are talking about the new 'my guests' and 'my hosts' tabs, why not mention that? It has taken numerous posts to get down to specifically what you are saying has gone missing. These tabs were meant to integrate with the official request system which has been abandoned. All your feedback is on the feedback tab (unless you are saying, as I asked in another post, that there is more feedback that is not appearing on that link?).
Because I have no clue where any of this is supposed to show up. I'm not the developer and I can't read the developer's mind. As a user, I would expect feedback about staying with me to be on that page, but I see nothing, and it's reporting nothing is found. At this time, with all these posts (not a big deal, actually), I still don't know where it's supposed to happen. Feedback is a two way street: People that have stayed with me, and people that I have stayed with. Why there's Feedback, My Hosts and My Guests, is beyond me. It's overlap and hugely confusing. Why is there no explanation about what those tabs mean? So if you want to talk about confusing, the site is hugely confusing.
And now you say it's designed to integrate with a system that isn't there anymore.
And yes, like I've stated with the beginning of this thread, I'm asking where all the comments on MY location are. I can't find one.
Your first post was very vague, yes the site is confusing and has all kinds of half baked and abandoned ideas in it but that doesn't prevent you from specifically pointing out where the information is missing from, include the specifics and you will get the correct answer the first time. As I mentioned the tabs were set up to integrate with official request forms, they have been removed to possibly reappear at some unknown date in the future. To my knowledge individual members' guests and hosts never appeared under those tabs from the time they appeared (there was a brief period when every guest/host interaction on the site would appear there, then as far as I recall they have been empty since that was pointed out).
Regardless feedback has always appeared under the feedback tab so when you say something is missing that wasn't even there in the first place it does make diagnosing the problem difficult.
Paul, I can only identify a problem if I know it's a problem. Not knowing where things should show up means that I am guessing where it is. That's exactly what I stated in my first post. Like I said I write and troubleshoot this stuff, have done so for years. Predicting how this site is supposed to work is a chore. Why there's a little window validating what I just did, is the oddest thing I've seen in a long time.
I also don't know your role in all this, and why it seems (again, another guess, and I'm not reading through any thread history) that it's been broken for some time.
This site isn't by any means challenging or difficult. It looks like it's to be made much more than it already is. There are two sides to a coin, and for some reason there's 3 tabs, with two tabs missing pretty much everything. That is a day fix, if you ask me. Nothing about this is difficult. Not one thing. So don't preach to people telling them how to post on here, what to say, what information you need in feedback, then lecture them on how difficult it is. More than one person has reported missing information, but the "developer" doesn't seem to be able to get their head around simple feedback, as expected by users.
There is almost no feedback that reaches developers. They are external contractors. It is not Randi anymore. The programmers are not users of the site.
And the previous CEO was hardly ever here. There is a new one now, have not seen her here yet, but she has been on the job for less than a week.
Well that's a mistake. So they wrote something, dropped some features, then walked away? If it's in transition, then hopefully they'll sit down to make a list of things to fix, and change.
Wait, what? There's a new CEO?
It was in the newsletter sent out recently. July 17th. I hope Tahverlee gets onto things that need fixing. New Executive Director.
If you write and troubleshoot this stuff you should know how the basics of bug reporting work, it may seem obvious to you but without specifics to someone coming to it with fresh eyes it can be difficult to be on the same page. Your first post mentions info.. travels, hosting all gone - I interpreted that you were probably talking about feedback, I click on your profile and I see the feedback you have received at the bottom of the page, I click on the feedback tab and scroll down and find feedback you have given, I see that you have been a member for 8 years and as this has for quite some time been where one finds feedback it leaves me wondering if perhaps you were talking about something else. Dave came on and wrote this: 'Same for me. I have hosted four guests to date, but none of them display in the My Guest tab page. What's the issue with that?' it was clear what he was talking about and he got the corresponding answer straight away.
I have no role in this, I'm just a fellow member. If you wish to get the official input of the developers as to why these tabs are still there when the request system they integrate into no longer exists or when the official request system will be re-implemented or any of the dozens of other problems with relatively simple fixes that have persisted on the site for years, then I can only say I hope you enjoy the sound of crickets.
I don't need to write a bug report when I'm doing the work. I don't take weeks of meetings when you sit down on something as simple as this and get it done. This is not complex by any means. You continue to talk about travels, hosting, and you assume it's about feedback. Well yes. I want to see feedback on me. Given this is a cycle touring site, what kind of feedback do you think it is? Why would other people comment on my tours? Feedback is also something I receive from other people that have stayed with me.
Why is any of this so confusing to you? Crickets is only evidence of a team that doesn't seem to want to fix anything. It's not technical.
So you've never been on either end of bug reporting or troubleshooting? OK.
I never spoke about the complexity of solving the problem, I was talking about you being specific enough in your first post so that people know instantly what you are referring to (ie: I click on this, this happens, I go to this page : [insert url here] expect to see this but I see that)
I'm not the one talking about travels, info and hosting - those are the words you used in your first post, the common term for what you were referring to is feedback, it wasn't entirely obvious that that is what you were talking about even less so when I click on your profile page [ https://www.warmshowers.org/users/rich ] and find your received feedback where it should be and has been for a significant amount of time for WS members, then I click on your feedback tab [ https://www.warmshowers.org/user/15457/feedback ] and find your feedback given and received where it should be and has been for a significant amount of time for WS members. That is why Ken also took a stab in the dark as to what you were referring to, and why it took several more posts to get to the issue when it took Dave only one short concise post to get the answer he needed.
Do you read anything I put? That's like the 4th time you've completely missed it. Let me guess, you need a bug report filed? Feedback, for the last time, is bidirectional. I only see one side. There are three tabs for this, two of which don't work.
I suggest re-reading what I put. It's a simple concept with many pieces missing, and more pieces there that do nothing. It's a cluster-fart of confusion from the start. If you find any of this confusing, then maybe you need your hand held. Not by me.
I am not a developer here - I do not need a bug report filled, I mentioned bug reports and troubleshooting in tech (on forums, github etc) because there is a basic etiquette associated with that which includes giving concise clear information in your first post, which you did not do (if you would like a good example again, see Dave's first post, he clearly states what he is looking at and what he expects to see)
Confusing? You are the one who couldn't find feedback when it is right there on your profile page and under the feedback tab where it has always been. If you had joined a week ago I might have just pointed out that feedback received appears at the bottom of your profile and feedback given and received appears under the feedback tab but as you have been a member for 8 years this seemed like it would be insulting your intelligence. Clearly I was mistaken.
Anyway, I'll leave you to the developers, enjoy the crickets.
OK let me make this stupidly clear for you: "No work". "Things missing". The only answer that was needed was "yes, documented". Wow. You still haven't read what I've put. I've said it what...6 itmes and you still don't get it. You still are out to lunch.
Still not holding your hand. I'd rather speak with developers, or someone who gets any of this.
But these tabs "My Guests", "My hosts") are useless and confusing. As is so much on this website.
Just got another error saying I couldn't send an email when replying to something in this thread. Maybe 6 weeks of bug reports need to be set up to have 30 developers agree that it's broken.
I also see that sometimes. It looks alarming in red, but it does not mean anything.
Pieter, at no point was I trying to send any email. Never. I was replying to a forum post. I can't upload the image. This site is obviously very well bunged up, as confused as much as that other guy is. LOL.
Yes, just when trying to post here. It says someting like "contact the site administrator". In red. But the message gets posted in the forum.
"Unable to send e-mail. Contact the site administrator if the problem persists." Then below, "Your comment has been posted". Those two items are results from two different actions. Showing up in one single panel. It's not that the comment was or was not posted, but the result has that reaction.
i think some people might be confused between the website and the app? On the app, everybody’s profile says “View feedback (0)”
As official support for the mobile apps has been withdrawn it might be best to take any issues to the github page (assuming you mean the android app, the iphone equivalent isn't under any active development as far I know):
No confusion on this end. I write both of them. That query might be shared on both platforms, it's so confusing.
