Train from Cologne to Paris

Hi!

We are planning to ride Calais, Bruges, Rotterdam, Aachen, Cologne in September. Then Paris, Chartres back to Calais. Can we take our bikes on a train from Cologne to Paris?

Thanks!

bikes on train from Cologne to Paris

hi J. and J.,

I just checked with the german rail company www.bahn.de.

On the german side there is an IC-train (Inter-City) that takes bikes (reservation necessary!) from Cologne to Koblenz. If the IC is full you can also take regional trains from Cologne to Saarbruecken.

From Koblenz to Saarbruecken (Sarrebruck) you need to take a regional train. All regional trains in Germany and France have bike-compartments - no reservation necessary. Only during school hollidays these compartments might be full and you might have to wait for the next train.

On the french side you would go via Metz to Paris (Nord Station). You can check trains in France on this site: https://www.sncf.com/en .

If all trains are on time and bike compartments are free the travel time would be something between 11 and 13 hours.

If you need more infos when the time of your trip comes closer feel free to call me on the phone. Numbers are on my profile page.

Happy riding and winds from behind,

   kind regards

Perhaps the boat also?

Hi, we cycled the Rhine from Amsterdam to Frankfurt and then from Trier back up the Mosel and then the Rhine. It was suggested we take the boat from Koblenz down to Mainz which we did, one way and the rode the other. It was excellent and you may want to consider the boat from Cologne to Koblenz. It will mix it up if you do need to take the train throughout different parts for times sake and then you could take the train from a differnt part perhaps.  The best part (most castles) is from Koblenz to Mainz, but it will still be a nice trip :-) No problem with the bikes on the boat, they even let us take our beast, 3.3 meter Tandem Recumbent Trike on board! Good luck with your planning.
