Bike Rental for Rhine River tour

Hello cyclists - I plan to cycle Eurovelo route 15 this summer from the source of the Rhine River in Switzerland towards the sea - I have 6 weeks to explore and meet people. My interest is in the health and management of the river and the way that residents interact with the river and their impressions of it. Ill be keeping a blog and FB posts with interviews of folks I meet along the way to promote World Fish Migration Day on April 18, 2018.

But to make this happen, I need a bike! Touring bike, hybrid style with racks and even panniers?!
on a prior trip I was able to rent in Copenhagen and return in Berlin which was ideal. Perhaps I could rent mid route, train to my start, and train back to the rental site when I complete the journey?

Any suggestions are welcome or leads for ways to purchase a used bike.
thank you!

Bike rental on Rhine

I did this on about 300 kilometers in Germany. I rented in Duisburg from a train station, took the train north, then rode back over the next two weeks. My bike was a tandem, but my wife also had a single bike. Rental was easy enough, with reservations on line. Bikes were hyb/rid and pretty good quality. Panniers could be rented, but we brought our own. Seems like you could possibly even rent in Frankfurt, and then go to Andermatt, ride to Rotterdam and return to Frankfurt to fly out. Or Duesseldorf, which is right on the Rhein also. I found the rental site online just by putting in bike rental and the name of the city. My operation was affiliated with Deutsche Bahn, the german train operation. http://www.revierrad.de was the site. Cost abqut 150 dollars for 10 days, but depends on bike and time.

I am actually planning to the the same trip this summer, for the whole length this time. It was great. But bringing my own bike.

Thanks so much for your post David, it has taken me a while to figure out how to reply, but in the meantime I decided to fix up a bike I road cross country and bring it with me.
I thought Id fly into Zurich, but will then need to unpack my bike and peddle away to someplace - then work out the trains to Andermatt. Have you done that part before, any advice? I plan to depart the US on June 25. Can you share some of your trip details?
