Spam Filters

Hi folks.

Just a note to say that people should communicate in ways that get past spam filters. I'm staying with someone I don't have contact information for, outside of their email address. They've admitted their system hides my messages, which creates more problems than it solves by contacting them in the first place. More than half of the people I have contacted haven't replied to me.

Make a rule to allow all messages that have [] in the subject. Also, continue to communicate using that rule, or using the same in the entire message. That way emails get through.

Oh, and please people, read your emails on a regular basis. Not reading things for a week is only going to create problems. At a week, it's easier to send something in the mail.

Ray: It might be useful to include some kind of alert about this in the automated emails that are sent out. Your call.

Mostly outside our control

Unfortunately, most people don't have the capability of changing the rules by which spam is filtered, and even those who do probably don't have the ability to use that capability.

This remains a key problem, and there are a number of issues related to this in our bug queue at

We may be able to improve things by changing to not use the sender's email address in the from:, which some mail systems consider suspicious.

What you can do is integrate

What you can do is integrate Twitter and house all messages on the website.

Private messaging

Well, the vast majority of members of this site have no idea how to use twitter.

But one possible suggestion is in fact to move to a private-messaging technique. You'd get an email saying you have a message *on the site*. I think that's related to what you were suggesting.

But then you're back to the

But then you're back to the spam problem. No email, no Twitter, no notification. Twitter is massive. Easier to implement than email, without the issues.

Notification of a message is one thing, and housing that message is another.
